I saw an add for a pocket sundial the other day and my thought was this, time has sped up so much that our Mondays meet our Sundays with nary a minute in between, by the time I would have pulled out and calibrated a sundial a year would have elapsed. So we are facing days that only contain the minutes of one breath and we have to decide which good God thing we want to do that day. I never thought I would see a time when my choices were so heavy with the weight of time. I know it sounds like I’m waxing overly philosophical, but I truly feel like we have to prayerfully consider our seconds as precious to fulfill our God-given mandates in this life. The good thing is that time has become the iron that hones our focus into razor sharpness that cuts off the unnecessary so quickly that you wonder why it was even a part of your life in the first place. This strangely joyful honing has become more and more woven into our lives, until we offer up the unnecessary as an offering on the altar.
